Alaskan Cruises

Cruise Ships in Alaska

Five star around the world cruises are riding a wave of popularity that suggests more ports will be visited by these amazing luxury vessels. With the rise of upscale world cruises comes along the promise that these ocean communities will be rewarded handsome economic benefits. With the tourism and the jobs that these cruise ships will provide, these communities will be able to see a profit from this extremely popular manner of vacationing.

When viewed globally, the five star around the world cruise industry is growing more rapidly than any other sector of the travel industry. A study commissioned by the International Council of Cruise Lines (ICCL) demonstrated that the total economic impact of cruise lines, their passengers, and their American suppliers skyrocketed from $11.6 billion in 1997 to $15.5 billion in 1999.

A study on the economic impact of the luxury world cruise industry in Southeast Alaska claims that in 1999, cruise lines, passengers, and crew are estimated to have spent approximately $181 million and produced the equivalent of 1,565 year-round jobs in the four communities of Haines, Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan. The study also maintains that the number of cruise passengers touring the region jumped from 235,000 in 1990 to 596,000 in 1999-an increase of approximately 154%.

Day Cruises

There are several areas of Alaska where ocean day luxury cruises are offered. Some of the more popular destinations include Prince William Sound, Kenai Fjords, and Glacier Bay. Day trips to these areas offer an amazing view of the coast of Alaska, not limited to its breathtaking mountain scenery, glaciers, and wildlife. Typical wildlife that can be glimpsed during the summer season include whales, seals, sea lions and otters, mountain goats, bears, and many others. Touring Alaska’s coastline also includes the benefits of cozy lodging during undesirable weather as well as naturalist experts on board to inform cruise passengers of sights along the way.

Multi-Day Cruises

For travelers who are looking to experience all that the waters of Alaska have to offer, a multi-day cruise is the perfect adventure. Decide between an exhilarating multi-day cruise through the glacier waters of Kenai Fjords, Glacier Bay, or Price William Sound on a catamaran or upscale cruise vessel of choice, such as the traditional ocean liner. These vessels offer any and all the amenities a seasoned traveler could desire aboard a luxury world cruise ship.

Sailing season generally begins in April and ends in late September. During the magnificent Alaskan summer months, five star world cruise ships teem through Southeast Alaska’s Inside Passage. The vessels either cross the Gulf of Alaska and sail into Seward in South central Alaska, or sail into exotic ports of call including those such as Nome, Gamble on St. Lawrence Island, or the Port of Unalaska on the Aleutian Chain.

The Alaska Marine Highway is a designated National Scenic Byway. It is the first and foremost marine highway to earn such a nomination and has been widely recognized as one of the most stunning routes in exploring the beauty of Alaska.

A Top Antigua All Inclusive Resort

By Gareth Jones

An Antigua Luxury Resort, that is also All Inclusive, and is also consistently in the top group of exclusive hotels and resorts in the world only means one thing, and that is Curtain Bluff Antigua.

Curtain Bluff is right on the southern tip of Antigua in 20 acres of lush tropical gardens, and has been a renowned hotel for over forty years. It sits on the Curtain Bluff peninsula surrounded by a reef which protects the two beautiful beaches called Bay Beach and Surf Beach.

Curtain Bluff has seventy two rooms and guest suites all beautifully decorated with ceiling fans, tiled floors and large marble or granite bathrooms, with stunning views of the ocean and each has a private balcony.

The room combinations vary with some on the beach, from the 18 beachfront De Luxe Rooms, with six of them connecting which is good for families. Children incidentally are welcome all year apart from February. There are forty Junior Suites in two storey buildings on Surf beach, and then there are the Grace and Morris Bay Suites.

On the Bluff you will find Executive De Luxe Rooms, the Terrace Suite, excellent for honeymooners, and six one bedded Executive Suites. None of the guest rooms have radios or televisions, so you are really getting away from it all at this Antigua Luxury Resort.that is Curtain Bluff. All of the accommodations are very spacious.

The dining experience at Curtain Bluff is everything you would expect from at top Antigua Luxury Resort. A Large range of choices at breakfast and an informal lunch at the beach bar with a menu that changed daily, and a five course dinner at night. Not only is the food excellent, and cooked to the highest possible standard, but the service is first class, and the quantities sufficient to tempt you not to indulge at lunch, because you want to have enough room for the superb dinners, but also to try to control your waistline at the same time

Many people feel that any luxury resort never mind a luxury resort in Antigua must be gleaming, up to date with all modern conveniences, but this isn’t the way that Curtain Bluff is designed. It is very much old colonial style, very comfortable ,if slightly faded around the edges, but this is undoubtedly part of its understated charm.

There is an extremely good Spa which is a recent addition to the facilities, and it has a Jacuzzi half way up the Bluff with absolutely incredible views.

Nearly everything about Curtain Bluff is exceptionally good, from the Spa, to the tennis, the sea, and the beaches. Most of all is the sheer friendliness of the place which makes it stand out from the crowd of other newer luxury resorts in Antigua. This is a combination of nice and very efficient staff, and the type of guest that Curtain Bluff attracts. As an example of the way the hotel functions, it seems that every time you return to your room you have fresh flowers, clean towels, changed sheets, ice bucket filled up, and fridge refilled, yet mysteriously no sign of the almost invisible staff who did the work.

Everything about Curtain Bluff supports the thought that it just might be the top Antigua Luxury Resort.
